1. The black shoe is called a "practice latin" shoe and it is made by Supadance, which is what EVERYONE used to wear for WCS up until last year. Since we all wear pants99% of the time, these shoes look fine. If we wear white/light coloured pants, most of us have the same model in a beige colour.

2. The beige shoe is a low-heel strappy sandal also made by Supadance. This is a trend that started last year (guess who started it?) and now most women wear this shoe exclusively (in any colour). It has a low heel which is great for balance and control and comfort: unlike a pump, you can dance in these all night long and feel fine. It is shankless, which makes it feel like a jazz shoe: you can feel the floor really well. The strappy open-toe look lends itself to wearing long shorts, shirts, or gaucho pants in summer, but also looks cute with pants. I didn't like this shoe when the trend started because I thought that my foot would be too exposed, and I thought it would limit my ability to slide and roll around on my feet. I proved myself wrong. These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned, and I now wear them exclusively. I don't even bring my latins to dance events anymore. Yes, my feet are building up new callouses in newly exposed places, but that's par for the course.

Why I don't like other shoes?
Jazz runners make your feet look block-y
High heel latin pumps make you look like you're latin dancing
Flat-heel saddle shoes look like you're trying too hard - like they're part of a costume
Jazz slippers are hard to dance in all night long if you have a high arch like me
Runners or tennis shoes make me feel bouncy like I should be doing Lindy
Flip-Flops get stepped on
Character shoes just seem old-fashioned
